The last C release of ToME 2: open wilderness, gods, skills, and the Theme module.

About the game

ToME 2 is the kitchen-sink Angband variant. There is a whole map of Middle-earth to walk across, dozens of themed dungeons, and a flexible skill system: your class only sets starting skills and costs, and you decide how your character grows. 2.3.11 is the last release of the original C code, maintained by the ah fork: it fixes many bugs of 2.3.5 and adds the Theme module.

Tips

New player's guide

Your first steps

  1. Choose the ToME module, then a race, class and god. A Human or Dúnadan Warrior with no god is a forgiving first character.
  2. You start in Bree. Look around the shops (numbers on the buildings) and buy healing potions, food and light. Wield a torch (w, or i and the torch's letter).
  3. Careful with the stairs inside Bree: they lead into a thieves' hideout quest where you wake up in a cell and your possessions are stolen. Try it once you're ready.
  4. The first dungeon suggested to new characters is the Barrow-downs, west of Bree. Press < in the wilderness to open the overworld map and walk there.
